K.A.L. travels in the same territory of sonic murk and sharp edges as RZA and Anticon‘s Jel (Themselves / cLOUDDEAD), and imbues the album with an ever present menace… A fondness for distressed samples, found sounds, static and atonal noise result in an experience that is schizophrenically both comforting and disturbing; beautiful and strange… Much respect to K.A.L. for putting the ‘trip’ firmly back in trip-hop – this is a million miles from the coffee-table sounds of late-period DJ Shadow; rawer, less polished, and all the more intoxicating for that.

The Skinny

This is incredible!… I’m feeling like this is both a) the best stuff [K.A.L.'s] ever done, and b) as close to the enjoyment that I got from the Sixtoo Ninja Tune releases as I’ve gotten in a very long while.
I can’t decide who the beats remind me of…not the broken organic feel of Sixtoo, more of a cleaner electronic infused beast – cleaner but harder too… more sleek sci-fi mixed with decaying post-apocalyptic textures and surroundings… damn.

‘Wishae Psychadelic’ is inspired and a brilliant title… Sully sounds great, a bit like a scottish Elliot Smith at times. Take that how you like. for me its a compliment.

Little opinions come to mind; for example I could say that the Frankie Miller clip sounds a wee bit too harsh and tinny on the ears to me, i could also say that the bit after “ma bit” which is the crazy chords that go on for a couple of minutes are utterly brilliant and truly psychedelic and could I have a 10-minute version of that sent over just for me?
