I got a copy of this the other day. It’s a collection of essays by Ian Svenonius, frontman of a number of great bands – Nation of Ulysses, Make-Up, Weird War and currently Chain & The Gang. I think it came out 5 years ago or so & it’s a good read so far, covering a lot of ideas (the collapse of the Soviet Union, Beatle vs Stones, Seinfeld) in a kinda mock intellectual style… It also fits nicely into a pocket, as Svenonius says in the intro, it’s for ‘street use’.
He also has a good chat show ‘SOFT FOCUS’ where he talks to people like Cat Power, Bobby Gillespie, Sonic Boom, Henry Rollins, Mark E. Smith and lots more.
Here are some clips of the man and his bands…
