KEEP IT REALLY REAL…

1 Apr 2011

So this post is devoted to people who are putting effort into releasing music on the physical formats I had almost forgot I loved…

A recent foray into the cassette world & rediscovering the magic of  playing records (and CDs) loud in my living room have confirmed something I long suspected about myself… I miss the magic of the physical format.

I am an old guy, I grew up with records & swapped tapes, I even grew to like CDs eventually… I have struggled, however, with the world of buying MP3s. A subscription to emusic for a few years has left me with a feeling that the files I have bought don’t mean that much to me.

So I’ve started buying CDs, vinyl & tapes again & playing them loud in my house (rather than on headphones or only in the car)… It’s magic, I tells ya…

Recently I have bought 7″ singles from The Sexual Objects, 12s from Kelpe and some tapes from Frenchbloke & Son, alongside a few CDs (‘Fela Kuti Anthology 1′, ‘The Bestiary Of The Creatures’ and ‘Tradi-Mods vs. Rockers’)

I also bought this, which seems to chime with the way I feel about music right now, Buddy Peace’s ‘You Don’t Have To Do This…’ boxset. I managed to get one of the 25 & I love it… have a look

Try getting a hold of Ebo Taylor’s Love and Death, think I might have mentioned it before, also check out Strut records for some excellent afro beats re-issues. Dub Vendor for classic reggae
