Well, I am a little slow off the mark when it comes to music – and I should know better, since a K.A.L. track appeared on an early Black Lantern Music release (one of the first i think)…
I have been enjoying a few releases from this prolific label over the last week & I will be returning for more. A home for left-field scottish hip-hop with a distinctly east coast (of scotland) flavour, twisted wordplay meshing with a bewildering array of beats/noises/nonsense…
My favourite release so far has to be CHURCH OF WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN ‘Octo Gate/Locust Ritual’. I’m pretty rubbish at describing music so I’ll let then do a bit…
“Long rumoured to be a dangerous cult operating on the fringes of decent society and dating back to approximately 1666AD, The CHURCH OF WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN has recently been exposed to be so much more than hinted at in those campfire sing-songs, paranoid conspiracy rants and Hollywood thrillers.
Some call COWTSHTF the harbringer of the end of all things as prophesised in the Book of Revelations 3:18:
“Lo, a tremendous beat shall render the sky apart and that beat is crunk. A cipher shall summon forth beasts tentacled and unknowable from that blackened chasm and those words shall be known as hyperbolic rythmic bouffon.” [from here]
COWTSHTF contain the vocal talents of HARLEQUINADE, who guested on the K.A.L. track ‘Black-hearted Bastards’ a few years back, and beats from the talented ASTHMATIC ASTRONAUT. Recommended.
I also enjoyed HARLEQUINADE’s ‘Vortex Cabaret’, which also contains contributions from Laughing Gear and Texture.
TEXTURE also has a release (or two) on this label & I was quite taken with a track or two on the ‘Synaesthesia’ EP, particularly ‘Echo Boomers’ which is a beaut – fantastic verses well delivered alongside sweet production from MORPHAMISH.
