I found these old photos while looking for some tax forms recently.
They were taken of my dad some time in the early 60s and are part of a whole collection my mum has in albums somewhere.
They were taken by Enrico Cocozza, a family friend and cult film-maker of some renown since his death. My dad was in a few of his films and Rico also painted a large abstract painting as a gift for my folks when they got married in 1967.
My most vivid memories of him were when we would go to his flat above the chippy & we could explore this place filled with movie memorabilia. He would make me & my sister macaroni with sweetened milk.
His biography from the Scottish screen archive is here. You can also watch a clip of one of his films, Chick’s Day, right here. (I was trying to feature one my dad was in, like the mythical Silver Trumpet, but I can’t see any record of it in the Scottish Screen Archive.)

Hi, my mum was also in one of Enrico’s films – Cameo. I have never seen it, but have just requested a copy from the Scottish screen archive. I am just starting to find out all about Enrico and his films and stumbled across your site.
Regards. Jane

Hi Don,
You were very good in it too!… i recently got a copy of ‘smart boy wanted’ and ‘the silver trumpet’ on DVD from the scottish screen archive… alas, the silver trumpet has no sound, which isn’t right (it has been years, but i’m sure it wasn’t silent)… i enjoyed the pictures a lot though
if you have a copy with sound i would appreciate it.
Thank you for getting in touch.
Mark

Hi,
I have just come upon your website while googling Rico. I played the writer in the Silver Trumpet and I recognise your Dad as Gerry. Rico aws also a good family friend of ours and I spent hours looking through his library and old films. I have a copy of the Silver Trumpet, which I could have copied for you. Hope to hear from you. Don

As far as I know both his mother & father were from Filignano. I had a quick look at his biography of his mother (‘Assunta – The Story Of Mrs Joe’) and it seems to suggest this.
Why do you want to know?

can you tell me where, in Italy, Cocozza’s family came from ?
I know that many Cocozza’s are from Filignano but I need a precise location.
thanks,
